More pupils from different schools around the Maltese islands once more came to visit the Embed exhibition and workshop being held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana. The pupils together with their teachers are spending an interesting day, from 9am to 1pm, visiting all the various stands set up by each college and also by some private entrapreneurs offering educational hardware and software. The pupils are also experiencing a number of hands-on workshops as we can see from the collection of photos taken today at the exhibition.

In the meantime the students’ press continued interviewing organizers and participants throughout the whole day. The exhibition was honoured today by the presence of the Director General DQSE, Ms. Grace Grima and the Director General DES, Ms. Micheline Sciberras. Both director generals have been interviewed and the recording can be found in the Embed 2009 wiki.
Today, at the Excelsior Hotel, the Embed 2009 exhibition & workshops was launched! This is an initiative of the Curriculum Management and eLearning Department, part of the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education. The European theme for this year is Innovation and Creativity and thus this initiative helped in promoting this theme throughout all the schools, whilst embedding ICT tools in our teaching and learning experiences. “eLearning is changing education and the pace of change is accelerating with each new tool,” Emmanuel Zammit, Education Officer for eLearning at CMeLD, says, “Digital tools are continuously developing to give teachers and students the potential to adapt and change the way teaching and learning occur.”

On the 12th of May, year 3 classes from St.Theresa College, Lija/Balzan were taken for an educational visit to Gozo.
Together with their teachers Ms.Maria Grima, Ms.Graziella Busuttil and the Acting Head of school Ms.M.L.Farrugia they visited the museums within the Cittadella. In collaboration with heritage Malta the children were given four different activities to help them understand the context of each place being visited.

eTwinning will be conducting a course during the summer months for teaching staff interested in getting to know more about online collaborative projects and software which could be used to create different media for class project work.
The main aim of this course is to help teachers and students to collaborate with European teachers using innovative methodologies. The course will cover the eTwinning Portal, working with digital still images and digital videos, digital animations, presentations, authoring software and audio and video conferencing.
Duration: 8 sessions of 3 hours each
Requirements: Basic knowledge of the Windows XP, Computer Awareness

Applications for the Summer 2009 eLearning Courses are now being recieved. All educators within Sections and State, Church and Independent schools are encouraged to apply for the eLearning Courses being offered by the Curriculum Management and eLearning Department. Applications are to reach the eLearning Centre by Friday 12th June 2009 at noon. The courses will be held at the eLearning Centre and selected schools, week starting Monday 27th July, 2009.
