Celebrating Comenius Day at St Thomas More College, Fgura Primary A

Fgura Primary ‘A’, St Thomas More College is currently participating in a two year Comenius project, ‘3eees , e-Counting, e-Culture, e-Communications’. Participating countries are Italy, Sicily, Spain and Scotland. The project focuses mainly on the use of mathematics in primary and kindergarten in a creative and innovative way as well as sharing culture, traditions, national costumes and national stories. As part of the project the school celebrated ‘Comenius Day’.

‘Comenius Day’ focused mostly on traditional food from all the countries involved in the project, as well as costumes and flags representing the same countries. Enthusiastically teachers and children worked jointly to prepare bruschetta from Sicily, pizza from Italy, shortbread from Scotland, tapas from Spain, pudina from Malta and lots, lots more. The students researched about these countries and looked for pictures of prominent places and beautiful scenery. They drew pictures and made crafts and hats. They also learnt some basic phrases and words in languages of these countries.
On the proposed day tables were laid out with the food from all these countries. The students wore the various hats and costumes they had prepared and tasted all the different foods.

Together with other activities throughout the project, this day helped Maltese children learn more about the culture of the children in other countries. All our activities with regards the project is available on the website: http://3eees.wikispaces.com
