Apple iPad, next generation computing?

Two days ago, Steve Jobs, CEO at Apple has unveiled the company’s latest gadget, called iPad. At first glance it looks like a very shiny, keyboardless computer, easy to use and needless to say, ultimately desirable. Measuring at 9.7 inches, the screen uses LED technology and is sensitive to multitouch allowing the user to pinch and stretch to zoom in and out when viewing photographs. The iPad also features an accelerometer meaning that is sensitive to tilting – the screen rotates automatically whenever it is turned around. In Apple’s own words “there is no right way to hold it”.

President Visits San Gorg Preca Paola Primary A

p1010009His excellency Mr Gorge Abela visited San Gorg Preca College on 19th January 2010. This was a memorable day for the students, teachers, senior management team and all other members of staff at San Gorg Preca, Paola Primary A. The children, together with their teachers prepared various items for this special event. It was an honour for the school to have the President of Malta visiting their premises.

The children waved Maltese flags as the President entered the premises. The flags had been prepared during mid week by the children themselves. The children welcomed the President with a movement display prepared by the PE teacher, together with the class teachers.  The President visited the classes and had a first hand experience of how children experience their daily education.

Below is a small token in remembrance of this special day.

17th and 18th International Cat Shows

[singlepic id=124 w=320 h=240 float=left]Dear cat lovers, the Malta Feline Guardians Club is proud to announce its 17th and 18th International Cat Shows to be hosted at the Phoenicia Hotel, on the 24th January. This is the first show for 2010 and coincides with the fifth anniversary from the foundation of this prestigious club.

Over 70 beautiful cats will be exhibited on the day and more importantly we are proud to announce that there shall be over 12 different breeds on show from the famous Persian to the complete opposite, but still a favorite amongst our many visitors, the Sphynx. To make the show even more special, for the first time in Malta, the club shall have the opportunity of showing a brand new breed to Malta the Bengal. Developed from the Asian Leopard cat hybrids, Bengal cats are arguably the most beautiful and engaging domestic cats in the world. The Bengal is a large, sleek and very muscular cat with its hind-quarters slightly higher than its shoulders with a thick tail that is carried low. There is no other breed of cat which displays the gold or pearl dusting effect (glitter) of the Bengal.

Its coat has a rich smooth feel of satin or silk. Even the voice of the Bengal is different from that of other domestic cats. They can coo and chirp, and like to jump and somersault. They also love to play with water!

The system features two screens placed vertically on top of each other with the bottom one being responsive to touch via an included stylus or finger. Similar to the Wii, Nintendo has widened its target audience when compared with their previous gaming devices. Games are now being designed with the ‘casual user’ in mind, the library of software available covers both traditional type of videogames as well as a diverse choice of programs covering a myriad of topics, from cooking to brain training, from virtual books to puzzles, from sudoku to edutainment.

Scribus: Open source Desktop Publishing software

What is Desktop Publishing?

Desktop Publishing (DTP) software is used to create publications such as magazines, books, newspapers, leaflets, brochures and more, which are then printed on a home/office printer or mass produced at a printing press. The content for a publication is usually created in an external program, for example stories are written in Microsoft Word, photographs are edited in Adobe Photoshop and illustrations prepared in Adobe Illustrator. DTP software is then used to bring everything together by importing all the bits and pieces – the final output is exported in .PDF file format for easy access.
