On March 2010 the ‘Kummissjoni Djoċesana Tfal’ organised a competition for primary students and also for secondary (form 1 – form 3) students. The competition consisted of either an essay, poster, drawing or e-card to celebrate Pope Benedict XVI’s birthday or anniversary, in relation, with the occasion of his visit here in Malta on April 17th and 18th.

SCHOOL FROM MALTA WINS 1ST EUROPEAN-WIDE
FLICK THE SWITCH ENERGY SAVING COMPETITION!
Malta, 25 May 2010. St. Francis School Cospicua from Malta has won the European Flick the Switch Champion award during the official closing ceremony that was held on Friday 21st May 2010 in Rakvere, Estonia for the best achievements in organising activities related to energy saving and teaching their pupils to switch off lights and electrical devices when not in use.

The EkoSkola committee of St Benedict’s College, Tarxien, decided to hold the school’s first EcoFest focusing on Climate Change. It was a full-day programme kicking off with an eco-treasure hunt held in the school grounds, followed by a vox-pop on how the school stakeholders view climate change and what actions they are taking to combat this global problem.

On the 13th of April 2010 children from St. Thomas More College at Marsaskala Primary invited their parents/carers for an activity in their classroom. This activity included creating a collage of 5 different types of birds with recycled material.

“I hate Physics, Miss”. A common phrase uttered by many students. Some students literally switch off completely once they attend a Physics lesson. And who can blame them? Any science lesson should be learning by doing. Practical lessons and experimental demonstrations bridge the chasm between the theoretical and the real-life situations. However there is always another option – simulations. Simulations like Algodoo software help to sustain further the theoretical component delivered by the teacher.
The Malta EU Steering Action Committee (Meusac) recently organised a drawing and photo competition for schools to commemorate this year’s European Year theme: Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
